Jump Into Reading was developed from a simple passion: teaching kids to read! 

Who are We?

Founder / President:

Cathy Gould-Harrison

Surrounded by educators in her family, Cathy's own educational career began  in 1985 as a certified teacher.  She taught in grades K-6 for eleven years; then furthered her education by earning her Master's Degree in Reading. With degree in hand, Cathy moved into specialized instruction as a Reading Specialist. Due to the academic success of her students, her passion for literacy continued to grow and over the next 13 years,  she took on the role as Literacy Staff Developer for Teachers, Beginning Teacher Intern Coach, and  Program Manager for Literacy Programs within San Joaquin County schools. Her educational experience spans 25 years and her passion for student success still has not dimmed!

When No Child Left Behind Law came to pass, Cathy felt an opportunity to really make a difference for children, which in turn, inspired her to develop her company program known as "Jump Into Reading."  Shortly thereafter, Jump Into Reading applied as a supplemental educational service (SES) provider with the California Department of Education (CDE). After adhering to a rigorous process and having her program analyzed and scored, CDE approved her company's merits and listed it on the CDE website as a Supplemental Educational Service Provider. 

Within that first year 2005, various school districts contacted Jump Into Reading, ultimately securing contracts with 5  districts. Students who were served made gains of an average of one year's reading growth within a three-month tutoring span. Cathy's goal had been achieved! In the following year 2006, the company incorporated and became known as JIR Enterprises, Inc. DBA Jump Into Reading.  Within 5 years, it has  tripled in size, contracted with 18 school districts, employed over 250 staff members and served nearly 3,500 students to date. Currently, JIR's 5th season is underway.
